Welcome to the Vallarta Underground Blog

Yes, indeed. After many months of goofing around with other formats and trial sites, I’m going back to what I do best, talking shit and blogging. In this case, however, I’m corralling my vitriol in a single category (not literally of course), Puerto Vallarta and the areas surrounding it.

I recently changed houses and moved to a whole new area of PV and during that time I was without my beloved Internet at home. Fortunately for me, there are a lot of places in PV where you can grab some almost free bandwidth, for example…

Van Gogh Cafe in Plaza Caracol. Three dollar iced chai and free wireless! Plus the counter guy is a hottie.

Super Salads in Plaza Peninsula. Although it’s a chain, they have good sandwiches and free wi-fi, plus once you know their WEP key, you can sit outside at get access for free any time you are in the neighborhood.

Chili’s in Plaza Peninsula also has unsecured wireless.

Plaza Caracol has a very small, free wireless zone inside the mall.

Handy PV tip: nearly everyone sets their WEP key to either 123456790 or 0123456789. Try either of those and you can pick up signals all over the the place.

Other free wireless spots to the north include Pie in the Sky bakery, Eva’s Brickhouse and Casa Tranquila in Bucerias.
